Come learn about the woopeckers and their amazing adaptations. Many woodpeckers like tree nuts, as well as many people. A nut tasting will be part of the fun. We will have a variety of nuts from different trees and different flavors, too. Free-will donation of $2 per person suggested. Pre-registration required.
Enjoy a spring evening as we listen and look for signs of spring happenings. We'll learn the sounds of our common frogs with a fun activity. Family program. Pre-register.
We do not know yet when the registration will be held. Also, the summer camp schedule may change quite a bit.
The week of June 22 we will have the Duck Walk trail. It will consist of a duck story that you read as you walk the trail and an “I spy” activity to find duck decoys in the wetland.
The week of June 29 is all about trees. A self-led hike through the wooded trails will lead you on an adventure to learn all about native species of trees in Illinois. There will be samples of the different leaves, bark, and common & uncommon facts about each tree species.
The week of July 6th come out with your pet and take a picture of your pet somewhere at Ballard. Post your picture on our Facebook page and tag Ballard Nature Center. The week of July 13 things get buggy. We will have a special walk featuring pictures and info about the common insects at Ballard and a scavenger hunt sheet for you to mark off as you find samples of the real things.
